Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

In all visual arts, drawings represent the physical expression for birth of an idea. In addition, drawings and sketches, in their purest form can be realistic or abstract, can be per long established aesthetic rules or rebelliously whimsical. The many characters that artistic expressions can hold, the more fascinating and charming they become to us. In most if not all respects, drawings are intuitive.

All drawings and sketches incorporate our feelings and ideas, an object or objects, an action, scenery, an expression, a temptation, an event or events related to past, present and even future. Above all when together, drawings and sketches expresses our personality and our take from life around us. Even those that might represent the past or future will bear all marks of our strength and weaknesses.

Drawings also are escapes; they are liberating from mundane and rigidity; things that can happen on paper might never materialize in the real world which makes it doubly desirable as we can be creating without the burden of worrying about the cost, codes, and all those things that makes our world livable through such rigid framework.

The drawings in the coming pages are personal expressions. They were not made to make a social statement or persuade anyone to a different thinking process. They were created of what I explained above and through the course of daily life. When we work as architects or artists, many ideas come to mind in a short span of time, sometime you might be watching a dance, listening to radio, watching TV, and reading a book and suddenly images flashes in your mind.

The drawings from my personal archive are organized in two major categories, one abstract and the other classic and the examples, once viewed, are clear as to which category they appear under. As information gets added to this website, there will be some of the sketches that has developed in to full products instead of just remaining on paper.

One of the great moments of looking at my drawing archives, was the reaction I received when world renowned British artist “Alexander” along with our mutual friend Doug Jensen visited my studio. Alexander viewed all the drawings and projects that were on my several desks and wall. I asked him to sign his book of his work for me. He signed and noted: To Bahram, for wonderful architectural projects and beautifully controlled drawings. I have enjoyed doing these sketches and drawings and I hope you do too.
